Tigh Curstaig is a traditional stone-built thatched croft cottage, built over 150 years ago, and fully modernised to a high standard. It is situated on a working family croft, at the water's edge, in the peaceful township of Kyles Flodda, Benbecula.

The cottage retains many of its original features such as the luxury built-in box bed with king size orthopaedic mattress, original stonework, and small sash windows, and its 3 foot thick walls to keep the occupants cosy and safe from the elements. The cottage is one of the very few, last remaining original cottages, with its unique marram grass thatched roof and is listed by Historic Scotland.

Tigh Curstaig comprises a comfortable, open plan lounge area with flatscreen TV/DVD player, double sofa bed, dining table & chairs and a small, well equipped modern kitchen with ceramic cooker fridge freezer & washing/drying machine.

The bedroom has a king sized luxury box bed, and the toilet contains an electric shower and heated towel rail. Bed linen and towels are provided free of charge. The cottage is heated by electric convector heaters and a small electric stove situated in the old fireplace. Guests will be expected to pay for any electricity used. Private parking is provided at the cottage.

Tigh Curstaig is located 3 miles from the village of Balivanich which has an airport, supermarket, shops, post office, garage, petrol station, bank, hospital, restaurant and golf course.

Kyles Flodda is a quiet peaceful crofting community and the cottage rests in the shadows of Rueval hill, at the tidal inlet by the sea and is close to the island of Flodda, where there is a resident colony of seals at Seal Point. Golden eagles, short eared owls, buzzards oyster catchers and even otters are regular visitors to Kyles Flodda.

The Island of Benbecula is in the heart of the Outer Hebrides, with road links to the islands of South Uist & Eriskay to the south, and Grimsay, North Uist and Berneray to the north. It is also easily accessed by short ferry links from Oban, Barra, Skye, Harris and Lewis.

Benbecula is also quickly accessed with daily air links from Glasgow, Barra and Stornoway.
Benbecula is renowned for its spectacular wildlife and birds. It is popular for sea and loch fishing, its spectacular beaches & skyscape and is a paradise for long relaxing walks and breathtaking views. The islands are steeped in archaeology, history, music and culture. Gaelic is the native language of the community.

To get a real taste of island life a warm welcome awaits you at Tigh Curstaig.
