Welcome to Straigona - where we pride ourselves on ensuring our guests have a relaxing and comfortable stay, with good food and advice on all Orkney has to offer.

Straigona is a purpose built Bed and Breakfast (B&B) located in Tankerness with stunning views over fields to Inganess Bay and the island of Shapinsay. It enjoys the best of both worlds, being semi-rural but only minutes away from the airport and Kirkwall.

All rooms in Straigona B&B are en-suite and heated by radiators with thermostats. Included are Tea/Coffee making facilities, alarm clocks, TV with freeview/DVD, WiFi Internet access, hairdryers, shaver point, hot water bottle, information packs on Orkney. An ironing board and iron are available on request. All beds have hypo-allergenic duvets and pillows.

As our bedrooms are all on the 1st floor we regret they are not wheelchair friendly.

Our rooms:

Inganess: double/family room with en-suite shower - contains both double and single bed and could also accommodate a fold-away guest bed

Scapa: twin bedded or superking room with en-suite shower

Skaill: superking (can be made up as a twin) room with en-suite bath with shower over

Dining Room: a bright room which catches the morning sun, with patio doors out to patio area – ideal if you want to enjoy breakfast outside

We have a fridge for guests' use and which contains fresh milk for anyone preferring fresh to the long life cartons supplied in rooms. Usually beside the fridge is a good supply of homebakes!

As well as breakfast, we are happy to provide picnic lunches and evening meals/light suppers – 24 hours notice required and subject to availability.

Straigona B&B is perfect for touring ‘Mainland’ Orkney. Kirkwall is only 5 miles away and Stromness is 20 miles away. The outer islands are often overlooked by first time visitors. They are great for a day trip and the ferry ports are easily reached from Straigona plus the airport is just down the road for anyone wanting to experience a trip in one of Loganair’s 8-seater Islander planes – why not take the world’s shortest scheduled flight and get your certificate!
