Balranald Cottage is a fully modernised traditional cottage ideally situated on the edge of Balranald Nature Reserve. The cottage offers wonderful uninterrupted views across machair to the white sandy coastline of Balranald beach which is within easy walking distance.
The cottage has its origins as two adjoining humble dwellings for maids working at Balranald House, just across the road. Back then, those that lived here would have had little for themselves after there daily work at the big house. But today, after recent renovations that have fused the two cottages into one generous home, those that stay here have come to where they are free to enjoy themselves as they please!
The house door, sheltered from the prevailing south-west and west winds, opens to a utility room with space for wet clothes, boots etc, and with washing machine and tumble dryer.
To the right, from the utility is a spacious kitchen with breakfast table and chairs, and a full range of appliances including oven, hob with extractor hood, microwave, dishwasher etc. Large windows look out over the Balranald Bog SSI and to the RSPB reserve beyond.
From the utility, to the left, a long hallway runs the length of the house, giving access to:
* a generous double bedroom with with en-suite shower room.
* a twin bedroom, with adjoining family bathroom.
* an extensive open-plan living room with windows looking out towards Balranald House and the walled garden, and offering a raised dining area with table and chairs for six and a spacious sitting area, with two large sofas
Beyond the living room is a large south-facing sun room, with large windows providing a wonderful panorama of white sands, a huge marsh and wetland SSSI, traditional small-scale machair farming, the Balranald nature reserve, and huge, huge skies!
Balranald Cottage has double glazing and modern electric storage heating. Electricity of up to £20/week is included in the tariff, Broadband is subject to reasonable usage. | contact: | tel: 01463 772782 tel: 07717 356378 email: mail@balranaldcottage.co.uk
