This recently-renovated thatched cottage offers traditional and comfortable self catering accommodation for two people in the crofting township of Balivanich.

The cottage was originally built in 1880 and great care has been taken to maintain its original features such as an exposed stone wall, re-claimed flooring and exposed rafters. It is, however, sympathetically furnished with everything required for your stay.

Its location in the centre of Benbecula allows easy access to beaches, lochs, walks and local facilities including a 9 hole golf course. It is also an ideal central base for exploring the surrounding islands of North Uist, Berneray, South Uist and Eriskay which also offer an abundance of local history and bird life including the elusive corncrake and many other species of birds such as golden eagles, sea eagles and hen harriers.

Living Area: the open plan living space is larger than most thatched cottages and is comfortably furnished to a high standard. It offers a solid fuel stove, Sky TV (plus), Broadband internet connection and an Xbox games console with a selection of games.

Kitchen Area: adjoining the living room the kitchen is fitted with a fan assisted oven and hob, washer/dryer, microwave oven as well as all the necessary crockery and utensils required. A drop-leaf table allows increased floor space when not in use. Also provided are an iron and board, clothes airer, vacuum cleaner etc

Bedroom: the bedroom is tastefully decorated and is fitted with traditional pine furniture including a double bed, bedside tables and a tallboy wardrobe.

Bathroom: the bathroom has been traditionally decorated and comprises a white bathroom suite and electric shower.

Heating and hot water are operated by an electric boiler system which provides constant hot water in the kitchen and bathroom.

Non smoking is preferred; however a cleaning charge will be applied if guests wish to do so.

Pets are welcome although a cleaning charge will also be applied. Dog owners please note that the cottage is situated on a working croft which houses livestock and poultry. Please supervise dogs suitably.

Bayview Cottage is an old fishermans cottage recently fully refurbished to the highest standard. It is situated in the most scenic bay on the Uists. There is wildlife in abundance, otters, dolphins, basking sharks, all species of seabirds etc. No 1 spot for bird watching.

Bayview Cottage sleeps 4 persons. 1 bedroom with twin beds and double sofa bed in the living room. Fully equipped separate kitchen/diner. Wet room with all facilities. Traditional multi fuel stove in the lounge with heating in all rooms. Plenty of car parking space.

Only 5 minutes away from all amenities, supermarkets, butcher, post office etc in Ballivanich, Benbecula.

Restaurants in the vicinity include the famous Orasay Inn. Bayview is situated in the ideal location for exploring North or South Uist, Benbecula, Eriskay and Barra. In the summertime, music festivals in Barra are a truly memorable experience.

If you wish to bring your own boat there is a slipway adjacent to the property. If fishing is your thing, the ocean is literally on your doorstep and inland lochs aplenty. Fishing permits available for fresh water loch fishing. You may even want to try your hand at winkle or cockle picking.

There has never been a better time to visit the Uists due to the big reduction in ferry prices.
